Our 2007 Royalty Contest was held in Hamburg, New York at the NZ
National show. There were 12 contestants. The winners received
$10 donated by the New Zealand Club, as well as nice medallions
donated by John Neff. The remaining contestants received $5 each.
The test is mostly written with a showmanship question. Younger
members demonstrated showmanship on a stuffed rabbit where 11
and older used a live rabbit of their choosing. The questions were
based on the New Zealand Standard of Perfection, the ARBA Guide
Book, and the show rules in the ARBA Year Book. Kings and
Queens had to know who the president and secretary of the club
are, and where the next ARBA convention will be. Judging consisted
of line drawings of 4 rabbits which members ranked in order. Most
contestants completed the test in less than an hour, so none
missed the judging of their rabbits.
King was Jason Burr. Jason has been raising rabbits for 5 years
and cares for more than half of his family’s 70 hole rabbitry. This
was the first time he had participated in the NZ Royalty Contest, but
he has participated in the ARBA Royalty Contest.
Queen was Kacy Shipe. She cares for 30 of the family’s 80 hole
rabbitry. She has participated in numerous ARBA Royalty Contests
as well as most if not all of the NZ Royalty Contests.
Duke was Jacob Gray. Jacob cares for the family’s 77 cages of New
Zealands, and has participated in the ARBA Royalty Contest as well
as the NZ Royalty Contest.
Duchess was Hannah Means. This 14 year old stays busy caring for
her 85 hole rabbitry of which 25 are for New Zealands. She was third
runner up for Duchess at the 2006 ARBA Convention, where she
was 4th over-all in judging. She is working on her registrar’s license.
Prince was Justin Baldwin. He shares rabbit responsibilities with
his dad caring for their 96 hole rabbitry. This was his first Royalty
Contest.
Princess was Alexandra Reau. This 11 year old cares for half of her
family’s 100 hole rabbitry. She was second runner up as Lady in the
ARBA Royalty Contest.
Lord was Caleb Taulbee. Caleb’s picture can also be found in the
Mar/April DR as he was the 2006 ARBA Lord. Caleb has participated
in several of the NZ Royalty Contests, and won last year.
Lady was Mari Zillgitt. She has recently started raising rabbits and
this was her first Royalty Contest.
